This is gonna be me and my buddy Mickey's blog. We'll upload music. Ours and other people's. That's all.

About a week ago, Mickey (the other guy) sent me an album by a group called Jam Pony Express in the usual way. Lady luck wasn’t with us, as the file failed to transfer again and again. So instead, I searched out JPE on a google blog search, and low and behold, I found a
BLOG jam packed with Jam Pony. DJ Spice, one of several-dozen members of the collective, runs the blog. In his own words, he’s “not one of the founding members”, joining the group in 1990.
Jam Pony have repped Ft Lauderdale, FL since 1981. Their website has a nice
HISTORY. They basically claim to be one of the most influential, often-imitated southern hip hop groups ever. They also say their studio album, released in 1994, sounds “akin to the obtuse beauty” of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture and it apparently features “curious time signatures, hard rock guitar riffs” and a golden-voiced singer. While this doesn’t sound exactly like what I love about southern rap, it does sound super intriguing and weird as fuck, which I guess is what I love about southern rap.
Anyways, I don’t know if its sonic architecture on the level of Frank Lloyd Wright, but these jams rule. The few albums I’ve grabbed from the blog largely feature various members and DJs shouting over songs their playing or just like putting a shitload of echo on a drum track. It’s like 2 Live Crew + Extreme Animals + toasting and it’s a serious fucking party.
This thing I posted though is some straight chopped n screwed shit. Mostly just screwed, and they don’t shout over the tracks either. It’s really just an assortment of awesome hip hop tracks, mostly from the south, slowed down to a drudging, syrupy 70 bpm. Lil Wayne and Juvenille and the gang on “We On Fire” all sound like Big Lurch or some shit, while Lil Troy’s “Wanna Be A Baller” sounds even more appropriate than ever. The gem for me though is “25 Lighters”, originally a Screwed Up Click joint. The original song is pretty upbeat but this beat just cruiiiises better at this speed. Fat Pat’s already bassy flow becomes total sludge.
